Servo

Servo is an application that enables you to find in-person services around your local area ranging from established companies to small businesses.

Project Duration: 1 Month          Tools: Figma          Project Type: Personal Case Study

Application Context

The Servo application acts as the go to space to find all different types of service providers from landscaping to cake decorators. All information is provided and placed all in one screen such as service pricing, reviews and location along with the opportunity to contact the service through either messaging or phone call. The application also aims to encourage individuals to use local services and small businesses within their communities that may not be getting the same exposure as well-known service-based providers.

The Problem

Searching for particular service providers can prove to be tedious for users who are looking for specific requirements and so often rely on searching on Google or social media. Furthermore, these search engines do not provide all the essential information a customer may want to know in one location, resulting in the user having to search for longer and further complicating the process. Small businesses in local communities often get overlooked due to not having high exposure online which further makes them harder to find.

Goals

The Design Process

User Research

A survey was conducted to determine how and what individuals search for when finding service providers. Based on the feedback of 21 individuals, the majority of the respondents used Google and social media to look for services. The majority of individuals also agreed that the most important aspects of searching for a service provider included reviews, service rating, and pricing. The feedback also confirmed that the process of finding a service provider can be incredibly time-consuming, tedious and sometimes stressful.

Sketches

The sketching phase consisted of outlining the foundation of the app such as the designated menu pages and sign-up process. A series of sketches were created to define the information hierachy for the company service page.

Wireframes

Low Fidelity wireframes were designed to finalise the layout and used as a testing prototype to assess application fluidity.

Information Architecture

Usability Testing

The usability testing phase involved a series of participants partaking in a task completion exercise which involved them completing a series of 3 tasks using the high fidelity prototype, this was then followed by a short semi-structured interview to gain insights regarding personal experiences of using service providers and using the prototype.

Iterations

The usability test highlighted a series of improvements to be made such as making the map view feature more prominent as it was difficult for users to find and increasing the size of the location text within the service provider listing.
